Orientation meeting for 2016 cohort international students in CDC program

On the 10th September 2016, the School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) held an orientation meeting for the 2016 cohort international students in Contemporary Development of China (CDC)program in 2026 meeting room. Both first year and second year students attended the meeting.

Professor Zhang Qiang (Braven), the director of CDC program welcomed international students and encouraged everyone to make use of opportunities while living and studying in China. He said the field of Public Management gives students many options for job and career opportunities in the near future. Dr. Braven added there are also more chances for improvement in SSDPP English program as the faculty desire to make the department one of the best in BNU.  The coordinator of CDC program, Ms. Zhu Lei gave an overview of the CDC program, courses and credits, taking courses in other department, internship procedures, selecting supervisors, CDC graduate certificates and thesis writing.

In addition, the Student Union members shared experience with new students. The coordinator Ahyoung Kim(2015 cohort) shared with new students the importance of Wechat. She introduced new students “Wechat Wallet” and suggested them to use Wechat in order to make communications easier as Wechat keeps people connected and updated with daily life and fun activities. Benjamin Appiah (2015 cohort) was the moderator of the meeting, he informed students about their chances to attend and learn from educative seminars in the department, various interesting activities like the Christmas and Halloween parties held for the international students of the SSDPP. Daniel Assab (2015 Cohort) also provided background about “Movie Night”-one of SSDPP international students interesting entertaining and educative program.

Pauline Ponyene (2015 cohort, President of Student Union) encouraged students to learn and share knowledge. She highlighted “Academic Study Group”-a program in which students could exchange more ideas and share more experience. ASG allows students to share ideas about global social and policy issues, course related topics and a means through which students provide academic support to each other. Finally, Pauline announced the Students Union vacancy positions and election schedule.
