Exchange Activities of SSDPP’sExcellent Interns of MSW 2013 in Hong Kong

From May 13 to 19, 2015, the School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) organized seven excellent interns of MSW to carry out a one-week exchange activity in Hong Kong. The activities from May 15 to 17 were organized under the leadership of Vice President QiaoDongping.

On the morning of May 14, seven MSW students attended the training held in Youth Outreach, having a comprehensive understanding of the social services in Hong Kong, andpaid a visit to the S. K. H. Holy Carpenter Church Community Centre. The center’s senior service manager Mr. Wu gave a detailed introduction to the community services. After that, the students visited the youth service project - Skyhigh Creative Partners of St. James’ Settlement (Tin ShuiWai, New Territories).

 

 
  On the afternoon of May 15, SSDPP’s delegation visited Caritas District Elderly Centre - Yuen Long(Tianze Center) to study the elderly service situation in Hong Kong. Team leader Mr. Cui Yunran and social worker CaiCuijia introduced to us the development situation and salary level of elderly service and social work in Hong Kong. The two sides shared experience in social services and exchanged ideas on the development of social work in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
 

 

 

 

 

  On the evening of May 15, the SSDPP delegation of eight members visited the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and exchanged views on the development prosperity and mission of social work and the study, internship and employment of social work students with Vice President Professor Angelina Yuen and representatives of theteachers and students of Department of Applied Social Sciences of the university. As a result, the two sides had a better understanding of the training patterns and employment situations of the each other. Finally, representatives of our teachers and students issued the propaganda materials of SSDPP’s seventh summer camp for youth leadership.

 

 

 

 

 

  On the morning of May 16, the SSDPP delegation paid a visit to the University of Hong Kong and exchanged ideas on the social worker training program of the University of Hong Kong and Beijing Normal University withProfessor Chen Liyun, Director of Department of Social Work and Social Administration, who later introduced her research findings. Participating students shared their employment information and discussed how to apply the concept of social work to their own work. Representatives of our teachers and students issued the propaganda materials of SSDPP’s seventh summer camp for youth leadership.After that, the delegation visited Hong Kong's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Director General Dr. He Aizhuintroduced the development and service mode and effectiveness of Hong Kong'schild protection and the role of Hong Kong's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in preventing and intervening cruelty to children, and taught the students some methods for social services.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  On May 17, the delegation visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University to make propagandas on SSDPP’s seventh summer camp on youth leadership through posters and leaflets. On May 18, the delegation participated in the overnight outreaching activities of Youth Outreach to personally experience Hong Kong’s services for street children.

 

 

 

 

 

  The exchange activity came to a successful conclusion. The MSW students all said they will keep in mind the mission of social workers,make good use of what they’ve learned in their work and practice SSDPP’s school motto of extensive learning and setting an example by personal performance.
